Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that will be provided at the time of booking confirmation or upon vehicle collection. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Burton, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with possible extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid driving license suitable for the vehicle category is required, as well as proof of identity and current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit must also be provided. Additional requirements may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or at our Dartford office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. The total payment along with a security deposit is usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are quoted in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with transactions processed securely through established payment platforms.
Vehicle Pick-Up and Drop-Off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, except for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. Ensure the fuel level matches that at the time of collection, as refueling fees will apply if the tank is not full upon return. Late returns may result in additional charges; please inform us as soon as possible if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will also be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance Coverage and Responsibility
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. The specifics regarding coverage and excess amounts are outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help limit your financial responsibility. It's advisable to review these options thoroughly. You are liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except when covered by additional insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. It is prohibited to transport hazardous materials or to sub-let the vehicle to others. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, users must adhere to passenger and weight limits and remain within the designated geographical boundaries unless prior approval is obtained.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Burton Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business related to your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount paid for your rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the relevant courts.
10. Updates to Terms
Burton reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately once posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
